Age Restrictions

There is no limit on age of vehicles imported to Mongolia.

Main Port

Shipment by container to Ulan Bataar, through Xingang (Tianjin) port in China.

RORO is also possible for large vehicles with transshipment on train in Xingang port.

Container shipment is preferred because of regular thefts on vehicles during the transit through China.

Inspection

No specific inspection on a used vehicle imported in Mongolia is required. However, cars imported from Japan are checked for radiation.

Right-Hand Drive vehicle

Mongolia being a Left-hand drive country, allows importation of Right-hand drive vehicle with a valid import license.

Taxes

5% Customs Duty on the value of the vehicle
Excise Duty depending on the engine capacity and the year of manufacture of the vehicle
10% VAT on the total cost of the vehicle (value of vehicle + Customs Duty + Excise Duty)

Import Regulations

No limit on year of manufacture, yet the older the vehicle, the higher the Excise Duty that must be paid to clear the vehicle.

No pre-shipment inspection.

Customers in Mongolia have to choose a forwarder who will handle the clearing of the vehicle in Mongolia and will often organize the shipment from Japan (in that case we sell vehicles on FOB basis).
